Description This is a campaign medal from the successful 1884 Democratic Presidential ticket of Grover Cleveland and Thomas Hendricks. It is a brass plated tin eagle with a shield on it's chest, three arrows in it's left claw, and olive branches in it's right, and a safety pin on the back attached by a link to a brass medal with a hole drilled through the top. The front of the circular medal features the profile busts of the candidates with the words "F L Krider Phila" in small letters below the image. There is a bead-pattern border around the edge. The back of the medal has the same border and the words "CLEVELAND HENDRICKS ON A BROAD PLATFORM/OF GOOD PLANKS WILL LEAD ALL TO VICTORY" in concentric circles. The year "1884" is in the center with an image of a fascis between the 8's.
Notes Grover Cleveland was the first Democrat elected to the Presidency after the Civil War, breaking the longest absence of any party from that office. It was an acrimonious and personally vindictive campaign
