Description This is a wood box with black enameled cast iron frame and feet. The box holds a whetstone that is used for sharpening knives or other kinds of sharp objects. The box also has a fitted wooden lid to cover the whetstone. On the inside of the box there are little circular shapes cut into the wood, probably from testing the sharpness of the tools. On both of the legs it reads "Patented / April 26 / 1870."
Notes Used to sharpen edge tools, i.e. chisels, plane irons, etc. Collected by the donor from antique stores, barns, etc. in southern Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky over the last thirty years.
