Description This fan has a single, flat, lightweight cardboard surface in the shape of a shield which is affixed to a flat, thin, wooden handle with rounded ends. The cardboard is red, white, and blue. The fan has a blue background with white stars along its top, a white center, and red and white vertical stripes along the bottom. Printed in white text on the blue, top section is "I'm a fan of" in capital letters. Printed in blue text on the white, middle section is "U.S. Senator / Wendell Ford" in capital letters. The fan is attached to the wooden handle with two metal staples.
Notes Senator Wendell Hampton Ford entered the U.S. Senate in 1974 and was reelected in 1980, 1986 and 1992. He was also the 53rd Governor of Kentucky. He was the first person to be successively elected Lieutenant Governor, Governor, and U.S. Senator in Kentucky history.

This object was donated on December 30, 1986 by Drexell Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia.
