Description This chromolithograph on paper is Gadwall Duck from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. No. 9-3, Plate 388. It depicts two mottled gray and brown ducks with orange-yellow heads. The duck on the right has black and rust on its wings, and both ducks are looking towards the upper left. They are standing on a plateau with a body of water in the background to the left. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / Gadwall Duck / Anas Strepera, L." On the reverse side are two signatures in ink: "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher".
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
