Description This award certificate is a blockprint lithograph depicting an illustration of art deco style young woman with brown hair wearing a simple off-the-shoulder white gown with blue & red trim standing with arms held away from body in front of olive tree. Across the top of the print, there are four shields with small colored images on each. Below the woman and the tree, there are exhibition buildings in background. The text in the background of the image reads "LANDS-UDSTILLING / OG INTERNATIONAL FISKERI-UDSTILLING / BERGEN NORGE / 1898." The text across the bottom reads "GULDMEDALJE / ER AF UDSTILLINGENS JURY TILKJENDT / B.C. Milam & Son, Frankfort, Kentucky [inscribed] / FOR udmarkede fiskesneller [inscribed] / BERGEN, DEN 26. SEPTEMBER 1898., / G. Whehmkuhl [?, inscribed] / EXEKUTIVKOMITEENS FORMAND / Johan Bogh [inscribed]/ Generalsekretcer." In the lower right hand corner, the lithographer's information is printed, "TEGNET, LITOGRAFERET OG TRYKT i JOHN GRIEG & KUNSTANSTALT, BERGEN."
Notes Possibly donated by George Stagg as part of his 1970 donation of materials relating to his grandfather B.C. Milam, a Frankfort jeweler. Milam was a pioneering manufacturer of hand-crafted fishing reels which won awards at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and numerous other sites.
