Description This ceramic decorative plate is hand-painted. The outer edge of the piece is painted with a red, gold-pattern, and light green border. The depiction in the center of the plate includes a purple flower and greenery superimposed over a river valley scene, which includes a river, trains, train tracks and bridges, and trees surrounded by hills. "Georgetown Loop," is inscribed under the river valley scene.
Notes According to an old card, Margaret R. Thornhill donated this plate to the KHS, "in honor of her ancestor, Seneca McCracken, a pioneer settler of Kentucky in 1786, also in honor of her father, Otho McCracken, a soldier of the War of 1812, who emigrated to Callaway County, Missouri about the year 1840." The scene possibly depicts the Georgetown Loop in Colorado.
