Description This is an illustration of Jeronimo [sic: Girolamo] Savonarola, an Italian Dominican friar and preacher who was active in Renaissance Florence.
Notes Savonarola (1452-1498) was a Dominican monastic reformer who opposed the Medici family in Florence, Italy. He invited the French invasion of Italy, opposed Pope Alexander VI, and was hanged in Florence in 1498 after being excommunicated.
