Description This coal hod is made of steel with a wire handle. It is enameled in black with a hand painted eagle with a shield, "E pluribus unum," and a transfer print gold vine design on the side. The handle spans the width of the top. It has a protruding spout with a spill guard bowed above. It has beveled trim around the base.
Notes A coal hod was used to carry and store coal for a fire, or to remove hot ashes when cleaning out a fireplace.
