|Description||This is a Hitchcock-style fancy chair. It has black paint over a red primer grained to resemble rosewood. It has yellow pin-striping and a woven wicker seat. The seat is wider at the front than in the rear. The upright supports of the back have a thumb print design outlined in the yellow pin-striping. The back has a plain crest rail with a scroll profile on the backside. There is one intermediate slat in the middle of the back with the same graining and yellow pin-striping as the rest of the chair. There are two round stretchers on each side and one on the back. There is a flat bar stretcher on the front. There are turnings on the front legs below the seat and atop the straight foot of the chair. There are turnings on the back supports right above the seat as well.|
This set of chairs was purchased from Charles Souder for the Old Capitol Restoration Project that was completed in 1975. The chairs are attributed to Woodford County, Kentucky.
