Description This tan silk wedding dress and capelet is constructed of two pieces, the dress (part a) and capelet (part b). The piece is made of tan and taupe silk with a round collar and a round lace collar. The shoulders are slightly dropped and it has long sleeves. The dress has a tan "flat" bow with ties and it is trimmed with taupe silk at the shoulder seams. The sleeves are full (bell-shaped) and are quarter length, with a fitted undersleeve to the wrist. There are four bands of taupe silk on each sleeve and a net lace at edge of cuff. The bodice is fitted and lined with white finished cotton and has four stays. There are two rows of taupe silk curved around the neck and squared off in the front. The skirt is pleated onto bodice with a slit in the skirt at front center. There are four bands of taupe silk below the knee and a single band at the hem. There is a duster at the hem of the skirt, with a train. There is a slit-pocket on the proper right side. The tan capelet is divided into four sections and trimmed with a single taupe silk band around the shoulders, which has a round ruffle at the hem. The piece has a double band at the neck and the back of the cape is decorated with a large bow and ties trimmed in taupe silk.
Notes Reported to be a wedding dress from the late 1800s.
