Description This is a prescription pad with a black texured paper cover. It has perforated prescription forms inside. The forms read, "LAINE CLINIC/1120 W. WALNUT ST./Telephone/Juniper 5-3025" for Rowe Drugs.
Notes Dr. Joseph Laine (1879-1967) was born in Howard Creek, Clark County, Kentucky; he attended Berea College and Meharry Medical College, graduating in 1906. He practiced medicine in Lexington beginning in 1908; in 1924 he established the Laine Clinic in Louisville; the instruments in the collection date from the 1920s through the 1950s; Dr. Laine evidently specialized in gynecology and obstetrics, based on the contents of his bag; Dr. Laine was an active civic figure in Louisville, working for the Y.M.C.A., the Urban League, and the NAACP; He was featured in the exhibit "Afro-American Physicians in Lexington, 1895-1950."
