Description This is a chromolithographic print on paper containing two separate prints based on the drawings by J. J. Audubon for the Bien edition of "Birds of America." The left image depicts two blue Crested Titmouse birds resting on an white pine branch clustered with green cones. The male is on the top is bent over pecking at one cluster of cones and the white bellowed female is just below him looking up. The top left corner reads, "No. 11-9" and the top right corner reads "PLATE 125." Just below the image on the lower right reads "Drawn from Nature by J. J. Audubon, F. R. S. F. L. S." Centered below the image the legend reads, "Crested Titmouse./PARUS BICOLOR. Linn./Male, 1. Female, 2./ White Pine Vinus Strobus." The right image depicts another scene of a Black and White creeper resting on a branch of a black larch tree. The bird is black, white a blue striped. The Branch itself has many small green and brown cones. The Words on the top left read, "No. 11-10" and the top right reads "PLATE 114." Below the image on the lower right reads "Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860." The center legend reads, "Black and White Creeper/ CERTHIA VARIA Wils./Male/Black Larch Vinus penula." Signed on the back are two faded brown signatures, "Bart A. Brown" and "NIna M. Visscher."
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
