Description This is a lacquered black tin box with a hinged lid and a steel wire carrying handle. It has a fold over latch. The rims are reinforced with heavy wire. There is a gold rectangle and red pinstripe on the lid and wide gold trim on the rims and base, accented with two gold pinstripes. The interior holds six stenciled lacquered tin boxes. Each box is japanned on tops and sides and is black on the bottom. The boxes are square with hinged lids, handles, and friction latches. The tops are decorated with gold fan stencil and the name of the spice within. The interior of the main box is japanned and inside the lid are two slots to secure a nutmeg grinder.
Notes Collected by the donor over the last thirty years from barns, storage sheds, and antique stores in north central Kentucky, southern Indiana, and southern Ohio.
