Description This chromolithograph on paper is from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. No. 1-10, Plate 288. It depicts an Osprey, or Fish Hawk, with spread wings as it clutches a freshly caught fish in its talons. The bird is gray and brown with a white underbelly and steaked head. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / Fish Hawk or Osprey, Falco Haliaetus. Male, Weak Fish". On the back of the print are two signatures in ink: Bart A. Brown and Nina M. Visscher.
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909. The Osprey is a summer resident in Western Kentucky.
