Description This is a cradle scythe. It has a curved wooden handle with a second handle wedged into the middle of the first. There is a red enameled curved steel blade with a raised bead on the outside. The blade is wedged into an iron ring on the end of the main handle, wedged with iron and leather wedges. It has an iron plate screwed to the handle between the wedge, ring, and handle. It has a wooden frame with four curved gold enameled tines, which is mortised into the main handle. Four dowels connect each tine, and an additional dowel runs from the frame bottom to the main handle.
Notes Collected by the donor from antique shops and barns, etc. in southern Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky over the last thirty years.
