Description This is a mandolin with a wooden frame secured by two iron pins with wing nuts and a steel reinforced wooden brace in the middle. There are wooden panels on either side of the brace hinged on wire nails. Grooves in the panels' bottom rests across the pins. One panel has a metal blade nailed to end parallel to the angled crossmember. It has a hanging hole in one end.
Notes The University of Kentucky began collecting in 1957 for the Kentucky Life Museum, an endeavor to "provide a permanent place for the hundreds of articles that have had a bearing upon the way people in Kentucky lived and worked..." Eventually, Waveland entered the Kentucky State Park System and was reinterpreted as a house museum. These artifacts were transfered as part of that reinterpretation.
