Description This is a circular political button, produced by lithographic process, for George Wallace during the 1968 presidential election. It has a white background and a portrait of Wallace in blue and white in the middle of the button. The button is further divided in half (top and bottom) by the following phrase, Top: "WALLACE for PRESIDENT" (with a red background and white script), Bottom: "STAND UP FOR AMERICA" (with a blue background and white script). There is a stickpin on the reverse side.
Notes George Wallace received 13% of the popular vote in 1968 as an independent candidate following his failure to receive the Democratic nnomination. The donor worked in the local presidential campaigns of Republican Nelson Rockefeller in 1964 and Democrat Eugene McCarthy in 1968 in Louisville.
