Description This is a First Coast Artillery military patch. It is square an olive green background. There is a gold circle in the center with a red rocket on top of it.
Notes This belonged to Hugh B. Gregory who served in World War I and World War II. When Troop I of the 123rd Cavalry was federally recognized in June 1921, Gregory was appointed 1LT by the Governor. In 1930, he was appointed Captain of Troop I and in 1933 he was raised to the Regimental Staff. In January 1940, he went into the Army and was in the 106th Coast Artillery when it was organized. During World War II he made rank of Major and was released from service in 1944. He did not return to State service after the war. In 1947, the 123rd Cavalry/106th Coast Artillery was reorganized as the 623rd Field Artillery and the Springfield Armory was made home to the service battery.
