Description This is a zinc plated copper spigot or valve with a turn handle on the top. This was used on a wine barrel.
Notes The donor's grandfather, Isaac Thomas Murphy, d. 1902, grew grapes commercially (as well as many other crops) on his Jefferson County Farm on Murphy Lane. His son, Harry DuPont Murphy (1870-1945), continued to cultivate grapes for his own use and made a small keg of wine every year. According to documents owned by the donor, the area was a thriving center of grape growing in the late 19th century.
