Description This is an oval placemat of pieced lace. The center floral design is Belgian lace and the background is Alencon lace. The four corners are occupied by flowers of bobbin lace and the curved inserts on either end may be bobbin lace. The inserts along the sides include a tape lace. The bands surrounding the entire placemat are of Valenciennes lace and the outer edge is scalloped.
Notes The place mat or center piece was made by the donor's mother-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Shackleford Mock; made in the early 1900's in Millersburg and Ashland,Ky.
