Description This Currier & Ives hand-colored lithograph is titled "The Little Hero." This print depicts a little girl with curly shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. She is wearing a red short-sleeve knee-length dress over white pantalettes with eyelet detail. The child is also wearing white socks and a black military style belt with a golden buckle. She is also wearing gold military epaulettes. She is holding a sword in her left hand, and she is grasping a rifle with her right hand and has the gun propped back on her shoulder. She is marching forward. In the background, there is a long, dark green curtain on the right hand side. In the left background, there is a green carpet and a white marble fireplace with a vase of flowers on top of it. Above, there is an oval-shaped gilt framed portrait of a man in formal military attire. Below the image, there is small text that reads, "PUBLISHED BY CURRIER & IVES, 152 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK." The title is printed in the center in larger capitalized letters, "THE LITTLE HERO," with a small page number or print number below that reads "319."
