Description This astragal plane has a carved rectangular stock with an astragal bead pattern iron and wedge. The wooden block is nailed to the left side to reinforce the iron mortice. The metal depth stop is nailed into a slot in the sole with sprig cut nails. There are rough chamfers on top of the corners of the stock. It is probably a home made tool.
Notes Possibly a coach maker's tool, from its small size. Collected by the donor over the last thirty years from barns, storage sheds, and antique stores in north central Kentucky and probably southern Indiana and Ohio as well.
