Description This chromolithograph on paper is of the Rusty Grackle from Bien's Edition of Audubon's Birds of North America. No. 7-4, Plate 222. It depicts four black birds that are perched upon a tree branch with autumn leaves and blue berries on it. The male is the all-black bird in the center, and there is an adult female in the lower left corner that is black with a greenish striped head. The two birds above are young and they are yellow and black. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F,R,S. F,L,S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / Rusty Grackle / Quiscalus Ferrugineus. Bonap. / Male, 1. Female, 2. Young, 3. / Black [illegible]". On the reverse side are two signatures in ink that read: "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher".
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
