Description This three quarter length portrait depicts Czar Alexander II in a white uniform with a blue sash crossing his chest. The uniform is embellished with braid at the cuffs and across the chest. In addition to medals on the chest the uniform jacket appears to have fur running around the collar, down the front and around the bottom of the jacket. The Czar is holding a helmet with a white plume.
Notes Czar Alexander II of Russia presented this painting along with one of his wife, Czarina Maria Alexandrovna, to Cassius M. Clay who was Minister to St. Petersberg from the United States.Clay gave it to the Kentucky Historical Society in 1904.
