Description This painting is a bust portrait of a younger Henry Clay. The painting features Clay in a side profile with greying brown hair and grey eyes. Clay is wearing a dark grey-brown coat with black lapels, a brown stock and a white shirt with a standing collar. The background in done in shades of brown.
Notes The file indicates that the painting was copied from a painting at the Louvre in Paris, that one having been painted from life as Clay was on his way to the Treaty of Gent in 1815. This statement may or may not be true, however Walcutt did study in France from 1848-1851. The file also indicates that the painting was 'renovated' in 1932 by Thomas E. Grove.
