Description |
This Masonic ribbon quilt is made of red velvet and several Masonic ribbons. The ribbons came from badges worn at the annual meeting of the Grand Commandery of Kentucky. This quilt incorporates many different ribbons that are placed around a center cross and crown and bordered with skillful embroidery. In the center of the quilt, there is a dark red velvet block with gold hand-embroidered cross and crown symbol, specifically a cross passing through a crown. The edges of the velvet block are stitched with a gold decorative fence-like pattern. Each side of the red block has two ribbons, a gold ribbon and a gray ribbon, stitched next to it. Sets of two to three ribbons are stitched next to one another to create blocks that are placed in the corners opposite the points of the center blocks. There are three rows of ribbons above and below the center block, and there are two rows of ribbons placed on each of the center block. There are red velvet blocks placed at the end of the rows of ribbon. This arrangement creates a concentric design. The quilt has a 2.75" wide red velvet borer with decorative yellow feather stitch running along both sides. The ribbons and the blocks in the quilt have decorative yellow, orange, and purple hand stitching along the edges. This quilt does not have any batting and is not quilting. It has a red polished cotton backing. The ribbons vary in width and color. Some of the ribbon colors are white, cream, pink, purple, blue, yellow, and green. Each ribbon has different text colors, fonts, images, and dates from various Commanderies and events. All of the ribbons have been cut down to be the same height in each row. The ribbons are from different Knights Templar events held throughout the country, including cities such as Louisville, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Toledo. Ribbons come from a variety of Commanderies, including those from Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Nebraska, New Jersey, Rhonde Island, and Kansas. |
Notes |
