Notes |
From S. Bryant Ott's (1896-1982) wall box from the shed row at Keeneland. Used to hold snap rings on feed tubs and water buckets on the shed row wall out from underfoot. Ott was born in Louisville near Churchill Downs to an old racing family. Following service in WWI, Ott resumed a career as an owner and trainer. He became a public trainer in 1934, working for John S. Knight, E. Gay Drake, Mrs. John M. Olin, J. Graham Brown, and Leslie Combs II. In 1958, Knight and Marshall Field's Fourth Estate Stable became Ott's primary owners. War Censor was Ott's leading money earner, the gelded son of Gallant Man earned $519,650 while winning 23 of 82 races. Ott retired in 1972. The wall box hung between stalls holding a trainer's horses. |
