Description |
This button was made for Senator Wendell Ford's retirement tribute. It is round with a white background. In the center is a large orange circle outline. Above the circle, at the top of the button, in a curved line are the words "U.S. SENATOR" in black text. Printed in the orange area at the top of the circle are the words "WENDELL FORD" in black text. Inside the circle is a square black and white image of Senator Ford and his wife Jean. Below the image are the words "KENTUCKY SAYS 'THANK YOU'" in black text. Below this is the logo for the Kentucky Horse Park which includes a horse silhouette in black with a colt silhouette in white inside it and the words "KENTUCKY HORSE PARK" in black text below it. The word "TRIBUTE" is on the bottom of the orange circle in black text. Outside the circle at the bottom of the button face are the words "JULY 18, 1998 - LEXINGTON, KY" in black text. |

Senator Wendell Ford retired from the Senate in 1998 after 24 years. Wendell Ford, elected Governor in 1971, ran for Marlow Cook's U.S. Senate seat in 1974 and won. He resigned as Governor in December, 1974. He was re-elected in 1980, 1986 and 1992, and announced his decision not to seek a fifth term in 1998. |
