Description |
This is a man's black felt derby hat with hatbox. The hat (part a) is a black felt derby hat with a black ribbon hatband. The brim of the hat is turned up and it is edged in black ribbon. Inside is a brown leather sweatband with a maker's mark stamped into one side and a retailer's mark on the other. The maker's mark reads "John B. Stetson Company/ Philadelphia/ Feather Weight." The retailer's mark reads "CRUTCHER & STARKS/ LOUISVILLE." Inside the crown of the hat is a black paper label printed with gold lettering that reads "JOHN B. STETSON COMPANY, PHILADELPHIA." Part b & c is the two piece oval hatbox that is made of cardboard. The box and lid are covered in brown paper. There is a paper label adhered to the side of the body that reads "STETSON/ HATS" with size and style information between the words. There is a paper label adhered to the lid that reads "Society Brand Clothes/ From/ Loevenhart & Co/ Incorporated/ The Quality Corner/ On Market and Third/ LOUISVILLE, KY. The typed address is made out to R.W Trigg." A handwritten inscription on the box reads Bledsoe's wedding hat/ John Bledsoe's baby bonnet." |
