Description |
This is an abacus with a dark wooden frame, lighter wooden dowels and markers, and a bar between the ones and fives place that has a strip of ivory running the length. It has a small blue piece of rubber glued under one end of it. |
Notes |
William S. Stovall (1922-1998) was an Army Ranger from Lexington who enlisted in February 1941 after a year with the Kentucky National Guard. He fought in North Africa, Italy, and across Europe, receiving the silver star, purple heart, and good conduct medal. He was wounded at Hill 750 near San Pietro, Italy. Stovall became a master sergeant in 1949 and was discharged. Called back to service as a reservist, he was promoted to 1st Lt. during the Korean War in March 1951. He was promoted to Captain in 1956 and retired in 1961. He was an avid collector of souvenirs from his service. |
