Description |
This is a brown cloth over cardboard bound note book filled with color paintings/sketches of 243 people created by Edwin Forbes. Most are portraits of historic figures in American military history such as generals and officers, presidents, and prominent men who were enemies of the United States like Cornwallis, Santa Anna and others. There are two or three that are of the artist apparently in the Mexican War and there is one of Mrs. Forbes. Many are whole page paintings. Several are 1"x1". The last date is 1877. |

These paintings were done by Edwin Forbes who was from Ohio County, Kentucky. He served in Co. A, 17th Kentucky Infantry from January 3, 1862 (Calhoun, KY) to January 23, 1865 (Louisville). The 17th Kentucky served in the Army of the Cumberland for three years and saw action at all battles from Fort Donelson to Altoon Mtn in Georgia (except Perryville and Stones River.) He died in 1920. |
