This is a section of pages 903-941 from the text entitled "Our Whole Country: or the Past and Present of the United States, Historical and Descriptive" by both John Warner Barber and Henry Howe. The title page reads as follows in both red and black fonts: "Our Whole Country: / or the / Past and Present / of the / United States, / Historical and Descriptive. / In Two Volumes, / Containing the / General and Local Histories and Descriptions of each of the States, Territories, Cities, and towns of the Union; Also, biographical sketches of distinguished persons, together with a large and varied collection of interesting and valuable information for all classes, relating to every part of our country from the Atlantic to the Pacific. / Illustrated by Six Hundred Engravings/ Presenting view of all the cities and principal towns-public buildings-birthplaces and seats of eminent Americans-public monuments and those of the illustrious dead-battle fields-historical localities-relics of antiquity-natural curiosities, etc., almost wholly from drawings taken on the spot by the authors, the entire work being on their part the result of over/ 16,000 miles of Travel and Four Years of Labor. / By John Warner Barber, / Author of Historical Collections of Connecticut and Massachusetts, etc. / and / Henry Howe, / Author of Hist. The second page of this book fragment appears to be an engraving entitled with a signature of "John M. Barber." The image depicts a man in period dress of a top hat and overcoat standing in the center of a gravel path on a hillside. He is holding a small pad of paper and illustrating a scene in front of him. Off in the distance, in the background there is what appears to be a small port town. Under the image it reads, "Born February 2nd. 1798. / The portrait is from a Photograph-It represents the Author with pencil and port-folio in hand in the act of sketching from Nature-The likeness will be recognized by many in all parts of our Country, who say him while on his tour through the Union collecting materials and taking Sketches fro the Engravings in this work." The pages present are from the Kentucky chapter. Throughout these pages there are illustrations of various structures that were found in Kentucky. In addition, on page 936 there is are signatures of notable figures from Kentucky history. This includes Daniel Boone's signature on page 936, George Rogers Clark on page 937, Isaac Shelby on page 940 and Henry Clay that is also on page 940.
