Description |
This hoe has a steel blade with a circular eye. There is a ridge leading from the eye to within 1" of the blade. The wooden handle is secured by iron wedge later reinforced with several wire nails. |
Notes |
Collected by former staff at Eastern State Hospital for a planned museum, 1956-69. Eastern was opened in 1824 as the state "Lunatic Asylum." The collection documented the lives of patients as sick persons and as wards of the state forced to earn their keep. |
