Description |
This is a State of North Carolina ten cent fractional currency note, January 1, 1863 issue, plate I. It is printed in black ink on beige paper. The serial number is 379. It is located near the upper left corner. The central image features a bee hive. On the left edge is a shaded rectangle with "TEN CENTS" in it. In the center is inscribed in a variety of fonts "RALEIGH, JANY. I, 1863 / THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINIA / Will pay to Bearer / AT THE TREASURY, / On or before January 1, 1866 / TEN CENTS." Below this is the signature for the public treasurer. In the upper right corner is a patterned circle with the number "10" in it. Below this is inscribed "BY AUTHORITY / of / LAW." In the right edge is "RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF ALL PUBLIC DUES." The maker's mark is on the bottom edge left "J.T. PATTERSON & CO. AUGUSTA, GA." The reverse is blank. |
