Description |
This is an Army dress blue uniform. Part a) the jacket has a 1" wide gold band 3" from the cuff. There are four front pockets and two pleated patch breast pockets with a single decorative brass buttons of the U.S. Army seal. There are snap closures on the inside corner of the scalloped flaps. There are two welt hip pockets with scalloped flaps and the same decorative buttons. There is a four button front closure on the single breasted jacket. There are detachable shoulder boards:U.S. infantry major light blue and brass toned. Part b) is a zipper front closure pair of pants that have a 1.5 " wide gold stripe running from the waist band to the cuff. There are vertical welt hip pockets and a horizontal welt back pocket with single button plastic closure. There is an attached waistband with belt loops and six black plastic suspender buttons. There is a metal hook closure above the zipper on the waistband with a secondary button closure. |

Harold Woodman of Louisville, Kentucky, was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on March 26, 1930. He enlisted in the army on July 26, 1948. After parachute training, he became part of the 555th Parachute Battalion, the Triple Nickels. This unit, the first African American paratroopers, had been organized during World War II. Woodman and the 555th were integrated into the 82nd Airborne shortly after he joined them. He served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and the Dominican Republic before retiring in 1968. |
