Description |
The bill is a 1st issue $1000, series A. The serial number is 145. It is located right and left of center and is stamped in blue ink. Around the edge is a decorative border in green ink. On the bottom edge it includes the name of the maker "National Bank Note Company" on both sides. The decorative patter continues into the center section to form a background in that area. In the upper left corner is a series of ovals laid in a pattern to create a circle with a scalloped edge. Each oval has the words "ONE THOUSAND" along the top edge and the number "1000" in the middle. In the middle of the circle is the letter "M." Below this in an oval frame is the image of John Caldwell Calhoun. In the center, printed in black ink over the green background are the words "Twelve months after date / THE CONFEDERATE / STATES OF AMERICA / WILL PAY / To Bearer / One Thousand Dollars / with interest at Two cents per day / MONTGOMERY, May 20, 1861 (hand written). below this in a space without the green background are the signatures for the register and treasurer. In the upper right corner is a series of ovals laid in a pattern to create a circle with a scalloped edge. Each oval has the words "ONE THOUSAND" along the top edge and the number "1000" in the middle. In the middle of the circle is the number "1000." Below this in an oval frame is the image of Andrew Jackson. The reverse is blank. |
