Description |
This is a prize ribbon. There is brass circle with a blue painted background at the center of the rosette. A twisted brass swag circles around the brass circle and there are tassels made of the same twisted brass dangling from the bottom of the circle. There is a white silk rosette on the back of the circle that was painted white and there are two trailing ribbons hanging below the circle. One is blue and the other is painted white. The back has a circle of fabric that the rosette is stitched onto and an safety pin style fastener on the back. |

This ribbon belonged to African-American jockey William "Billy" Walker. He rode Kentucky Derby winner, Baden Baden in 1877. He was a writer for many turf magazines and was also an advisor for Hamburg Place, the John Madden farm in Lexington, KY. |
