Notes |
Making walking sticks from wood gathered at historic sites or from wood with unusual shapes is an old tradition. Whittling and fancy carving were popular hobbies in the 19th century, when canes were also a popular fashion accessory for men. There was a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and unusual designs and materials. The rise of the automobile in the 20th century reduced the need for walking and walking sticks. |
