Description |
This black and white print of a photograph has a large title at the top that reads "Keeneland" and depicts three thoroughbred horses running on a horse track. The focus on the photograph is centered in on jockeys riding two thoroughbred horses racing side by side. These horses are Alergy and Casanrard. Emerging from the left side of the photograph, there is one horse is trailing behind them. In the background toward the right, the toteboard is visible. The caption beneath the photograph reads "First Dead Heat - April 21, 1938 - Six Furlongs - 1:14 2/5." Underneath this caption has a small chart for two horses with the column headers PP, Horse, Wt., Jockey, Owner, and Trainer. The first horse's information is No. 1, Alergy, Wt. 116, Jockey C. Landolt, Owner Mrs. J.H. Skirvin, and Trainer J.H. Skirvin. The second horse's information is No. 2, Casanard, Wt. 112, Jockey S. William, Owner B.W. Stivers, and Trainer Frank Muth. |
Notes |
Keeneland was founded in 1936 as a combination thoroughbred race track and sales company located six miles west of Lexington under the slogan "racing as it was meant to be." The track would not begin using a photo finish camera to decide races until 1946. This race was ruled a dead heat in 1938 by the track steward. |
