Description |
These are Marcus Raymond Davis's (173rd Airborne) Vietnam War soldier's cap toe boots. They are all leather jump boots. There is a "C" on the bottom of the heels. Each boot has rubber soles and black laces. There is an inscription in black marker over white paint on the inside of the right boot. |

Marcus Raymond Davis, the donor's brother, was killed in Vietnam on April 4, 1970. Upon his death this item and the other personal belongings in this donation were returned to the family. Marcus Raymond Davis was born in Harlan Kentucky and graduated from Morehead in 1968 with a history degree. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida and taught school for a few months before being drafted. The decision to report was an easy one according to the donor, "We were not the kind of people who ran off to Canada. We did our Share." Raymond went to Ft. Campbell for basic training with the 173rd Airborne in late 1968 and early 1969. He went to Vietnam in November of 1969. The donor also served in the military during Vietnam. She was a nurse stationed on Guam. (See 2002.27.2-.26) |
