Description |
This is a US Submarine Veterans of WWII Digger hat. It is made of light blue felt with a leather sweatband. There is a yellow silk ribbon hat band around the crown and the edge is piped in yellow ribbon. A large white osterich plume is attached on the left side. The left side of the brim is folded up and attached to the crown. Two patches are attached on the left including an embroidered patch of that reads "KENTUCKY" and one that reads "US Submarine Veterans of WWII. There is a white plastic chinstrap and a leather sweatband. A submarine warfare insignia pin is attached to the right side. A label on the interior sweatband says: "THE DIGGER HAT/ U.S. SUBMARINE VETERANS/ OF WORLD WAR II/ R. N. 16045." There is also a label that says "100% WOOL/ 7 1/8." |

This belonged to the donor's husband, Ewert W. Elliott. Ewert W. and Alene Elliott were members of the United States Submarine Veterans of World War II (USSVWWII). Ewert served aboard the USS Seal (SS-183) and the USS Macabi (SS-375) submarines in World War II. |
