Notes |
Clarence Gayle was the last of the Frankfort Kentucky fishing reel makers. He experimented with various styles and materials. Gayle also worked for Harley-Davidson and Buick before returning to Frankfort to produce his "Simplicity" style reel. During WWII, Gayle received government contracts and worked on parts for the atomic bomb. The Kentucky Historical Society has collected the remaining parts of the Gayle shop, two Simplicity reels, and several Gayle tools. |
