This is a wooden cane carved and inked with line drawings of Governor William Goebel, Governor John C. W. Beckham and his wife Jean Fuqua Beckham, as well as Sheriff and Mrs. Henry Bosworth. |
Notes |
A note on an old card reads, "Made for Henry Bosworth by a prisoner. Bosworth was sheriff of Fayette County, 1900-1904, and as sheriff he arrested and took from a train in Lexington a company of soldiers from which he took Caleb Powers, wanted in connection with the assassination of Gov. William Goebel." Henry M. Bosworth was born March 12, 1860. He attended private school in Lexington and later entered the State College, now known as the University of Kentucky. He was elected sheriff of Fayette County in 1899 where he served for four years. He was elected to the office of State Treasurer in 1903. He later became State Auditor in 1911, and he was named the First Assistant State Auditor in 1923. |
