Description |
This is a tobacco knife with a carved wooden handle, a tang of wrought iron rod that is wedged through handle at a right angle, bent over, and wedged again through the bottom with a finishing nail. The tang is flattened and split on the other end and fastened to a rough rectangular sheet iron blade with two rivets. There is an irregular notch in top of blade, while the bottom of the blade is worn concave from use. There are traces of black enamel on the tang. |
Notes |
The University of Kentucky began collecting in 1957 for the Kentucky Life Museum, an endeavor to "provide a permanent place for the hundreds of articles that have had a bearing upon the way people in Kentucky lived and worked..." Eventually, Waveland entered the Kentucky State Park System and was reinterpreted as a house museum. These artifacts were transfered as part of that reinterpretation. |
