Description |
This is a campaign nail file for 1972 Kentucky congressional candidate John Breckinridge. The file is red white and blue on the front with "John Breckinridge for Congress" across the main portion of it in black letters. The red background ends between the "JOHN" and "BRECKINRIDGE." The blue background begins between the "c" and the "o" in "Congress" and extends down to the end of the file. There is black union label printed toward the bottom of the file against the blue background. |
Notes |
John B. Breckinridge born 1913 first ran for a vacant seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1955. He was elected attorney general in 1959. He was defeated in a run for Lt. Governor in 1963 in the democratic primary, losing to Harry Lee Waterfield. He served as the president to the KHS from 1961-63. Breckinridge was re-elected Attorney General in 1967. In 1972 Breckinridge ran and was elected to the U.S. Congress over Republican Laban Jackson 52% to 48%. He was re-elected in 1974, and 1976. He lost the 1978 Democratic primary to Tom Easterly. |
