Description |
This is a pair of gloves that were worn with an 1884 wedding dress (2002.30.1). They are off-white leather elbow length gloves. They have a two button closure at the inside wrist. There are heavy stitches around the fingers and on the top of the hand. |

The gown in this donation was first worn by Susie Lightfoot Gooch who married Judge George Kimbrough Anderson in 1884 in Virginia. Mrs. Anderson's daughter, Ella Kimbrough Anderson, wore the dress at her wedding in 1911. She married James Lemuel Wills West in Virginia. In 1916 another one of Mrs. Anderson's daughters wore the dress. Mary Gooch Anderson, married William Elza Sweeney in Clifton Forge, Virginia on 4/26/1916. The dress was worn for a fourth time by Mary's daughter, Margaret Kimbrough Sweeney. Margaret (the donor) married Woodrow Wilson Foley on 9/4/1949 in Lexington, Kentucky. Margaret did not wear the other items in the donation, except for the orange blossoms. |
