Description |
This wood canteen is constructed of twelve, 3 1/2" long staves. One of the larger staves has a 1" diameter hole. There is no plug. The staves hold two solid wood ends. The canteen is held together with two, 1" wide, keyed wooden bands. |
Notes |
The added black ink inscription states that the canteen was made by Jesse Allen. However photocopied notes from Minnie Allen Hardin state: 'It was made by grandmother's uncle William Allen and given to his sister for a keepsake. At her death it was handed down the line and through Jesse Spencer, a nephew, was handed over to Aunt Alice Head.' |
