Description |
The is a 4th issue $2, 1st series, plate 9 note printed on beige paper in black ink. The serial number is 10104. It is located left of center near the bottom and is hand written in red ink. In the upper left corner is a image of Judah Philip Benjamin in an oval frame. Just below the image on the left edge is the number "9." Below this is a decorative patterned rectangle with the word "TWO" in it. In the lower left corner is a rectangle with "RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF All DUES EXCEPT EXPORT DUTIES" in it. The central image is an allegory of Confederacy striking the American eagle with a sword over a prostrate Union whose shield lays behind her. On both sides of the image is a patterned shape with the number "2" in it. Above and below the central image in a variety of fonts is "Six Months after the Ratification of a Treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA Will pay TWO DOLLARS to bearer RICHMOND, September 2, 1861." Inscribed above the word "CONFEDERATE," is "FIRST SERIES." Below the inscriptions are the signatures for the register and treasurer. In between the signatures is a small shield shape with the number "2" in it. On the right edge is a rectangle with "FUNDABLE IN EIGHT PER CENT STOCK OR BONDS OF CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA" in it on edge. A small "9" is in the lower right corner. The reverse is blank. |
