Description |
This is a celluloid process button from the 1906 Kentucky Home Coming in Louisville. The button has tinplate backing with a straight pin and paper label. It has two trailing ribbons of blue and red. Printed in gold on the blue ribbon is "Franklin County". Also printed in gold, the following text is displayed on the red ribbon, "June 13-17, 1906". The pin has "Kentucky Home Coming" written across the top, and "Louisville/1906" across the bottom in black. The pin depicts Daniel Boone and to his left a picture of an Native American attack on the stockade at Boonsborough Fort with "1774" written above it. To his right is a picture of a woman and a horse with "1906" written above it. Below these three pictures is a scroll of music showing "the sun shines bright in the Old Kentucky Home." The back of the button features a maker's mark with the following text printed in black: "Buttons made by / Whitehead & Hoag Co. / Newark, N. J., U. S. A. / Pat. April 14, 1896 / July 21, 1896". Above the maker's mark is an Allied Printing Trade Council Label stamp. |
Notes |
The Kentucky Home Coming was a week-long festival celebrating the state's heritage. County representatives attended and held county rallies, and the Kentucky Colonel's acted as escorts to distinguished guests, such as the descendants of Daniel Boone. The latest improved air ship was exhibited and flown over the city daily for the festivities. The week had daily events, such as concerts and "Daniel Boone Day." More information on this event can be found at the Kentuckyiana digital library website in the Friday, June 8, 1906. article of the Mount Vernon Signal (http://name.kdl.kyvl.org/mou1906060801). |
