Notes |
This item belonged to William "Bill" Caskey. He boxed while in the Navy, winning the 1949 championship for the lightweight division of the Mid-Atlantic Group. At the time, Caskey stood 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 125 pounds. After serving in the Navy, Bill Caskey returned to Kentucky. While living in Louisville, he boxed in the same boxing club as Muhammad Ali. There is no indication that Caskey ever fought Ali considering the weight class, but they may have sparred with each other. Caskey also played amateur baseball for a number of semi-pro teams. |
